Abstrak

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world and the leading cause of cancer death in women. This cancer is a malignant tumor that develops abnormally in breast tissue, affecting the mammary glands, milk ducts, fatty tissue, and connective tissue. Data from the Global Burden of Cancer Study (GLOBOCAN 2022) shows that breast cancer ranks second in incidence after lung cancer, with 2,296,840 cases. It ranks fourth in mortality worldwide, with approximately 666,103 cases. In Indonesia alone, in 2022, the incidence of breast cancer was around 66,271 cases (6.7%), the fourth highest in Asia. And with a mortality rate of around 22,598 cases (7.2%), it is the third highest in Asia. In Manado, there were 399 cases of breast cancer in 2015, and from December 2021 to January 2022, there were 29 patients, or 51.7% of the total cancer patients. Additionally, from May to June 2022, there were 62 cases recorded at Prof. dr. R. D. Kandou General Hospital (RSUD Prof. dr. R. D. Kandou). Based on this data, it is known that breast cancer patients are diagnosed late, thereby increasing the morbidity and mortality rates due to breast cancer. Breast self-examination (BSE) is currently a fairly effective method of early detection of breast cancer. BSE can be performed independently by women of all ages, both adolescents and adults. The Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) is an educational hospital owned by Sam Ratulangi University that functions as a center for education, research, and community service, as well as a facility for serving the community of Manado City, located in the center of Manado City. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward early detection of breast cancer among the RSGM UNSRAT hospital community. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The study will be conducted from April 2025 to October 2025. Sampling will be done using the total sampling method. The research instrument used was a questionnaire to assess knowledge and attitudes toward early detection of breast cancer. The statistical analysis techniques used were univariate and bivariate, using SPSS to examine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward early detection of breast cancer among the hospital staff at RSGM UNSRAT. Based on univariate analysis, the results obtained from age were <30 years old 95 (85.1%), highest education level Student/Bachelor's Degree/Professional 97 (83.3%), marital status unmarried 99 (86.8%), history of never breastfeeding 103 (90.4%), good knowledge level 55 (48.2%), and good attitude 112 (98.2%). The results of the bivariate statistical test showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and early detection of breast cancer (p value = 0.04) and no significant relationship between attitude and early detection of breast cancer (p value = 0.62). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and early detection of breast cancer through Breast Self-Examination (BSE), and conversely, there is no significant relationship between attitude and early detection of breast cancer.
