Explorasi Pengalaman Keluarga dalam Merawat Anggota Keluarga Penyitas Stroke dalam Sudut Pandang Budaya Jawa: Studi Fenomenologi

Abstrak

Background: Stroke is a major cause of long-term disability that has a significant impact not only on patients but also on their families as primary caregivers. In Javanese culture, the role of families in caring for stroke patients is strongly influenced by cultural values. However, an in-depth understanding of caregiver experiences from a Javanese cultural perspective is still limited, so further exploration is needed to support the optimization of care for stroke patients. Objective: This study aims to explore in depth the experiences of families in caring for stroke patients from a Javanese cultural perspective. Method: This study used a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach using in-depth interviews. The study was conducted in Yogyakarta region from August to October 2025. Participants were 9 people who were the primary caregivers of stroke patients selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using NVivo. Results: There are seven main themes in this study, namely (1) caring as a moral obligation and form of family devotion, (2) internalization of nrimo values ​​as a form of acceptance, (3) subjective norms as drivers of caregiving behavior, (4) physical and emotional burdens in long-term care, (5) social support based on mutual cooperation values, (6) the role of spirituality as a coping strategy, and (7) integration of medical and traditional medicine. Conclusion: The family's experience in caring for stroke patients is influenced by cultural values, social norms, and spirituality.
