Intervensi Storytelling untuk Mengatasi Dampak Hospitalisasi Pada Anak Usia Prasekolah

Abstrak

Background: Hospitalization often leads to an unpleasant experience, especially for preschool-aged children. Hospitalization can affect a child’s physical and psychological well-being, which may hinder the treatment process at the hospital. The most common reactions exhibited by children undergoing treatment include crying, screaming, and being uncooperative. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of storytelling as an intervention for stress resulting from hospitalization experienced by preschool-aged children. Method: A one-group pre-test-post-test pre-experimental design was used in this study. A total of 30 children hospitalized in the pediatric ward of Yarsi General Hospital in Pontianak participated as respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The inclusion criteria established included: children being hospitalized for the first time, aged three to six years, accompanied by a parent, and having parental consent. The instrument used for data collection was a hospitalization stress questionnaire. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for bivariate analysis because the data were not normally distributed. Results: The results of the analysis showed a median value of 43.50 before the intervention and 32.00 after the intervention, with a significance level of p < 0.001. Conclusion: Storytelling intervention is effective in reducing the impact of hospitalization in preschool-aged children.
