Abstrak

Background: Schizophrenia requires continuous monitoring to prevent relapse; however, the capacity of community health workers and nurses in early detection and recovery support remains limited. The SiJiwaCare application was developed to enhance the competence of community mental health providers. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of SiJiwaCare in improving the knowledge and skills of community health workers and nurses related to early detection and recovery support for individuals with schizophrenia. Methods: A mixed-method study with a sequential exploratory design was conducted. The qualitative phase involved Focus Group Discussions to explore user needs and acceptability of the application. The quantitative phase utilized a one-group pre-test post-test design involving 22 respondents (2 nurses and 20 community health workers). Instruments included a knowledge questionnaire, a skill observation checklist, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). Quantitative data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Spearman correlation, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed. Results: Significant improvements were observed in knowledge (p=0,001) and skills (p=0,001) after the intervention. Spearman correlation showed a moderate positive relationship between knowledge and skill improvement (ρ=0.46; p=0.028). The SUS score of 78 indicated the application was rated as good and easy to use. Qualitative findings supported the benefits and acceptability of the application in the community setting. Conclusion: SiJiwaCare is effective in enhancing the capacity of community health workers and nurses in early detection and recovery support for individuals with schizophrenia. Further development is recommended, including offline features and wider implementation.
