Hubungan Paparan Asap Batu Bata dan Karakteristik Individu Pekerja Terhadap Kapasitas Paru

Abstrak

Background: The brick industry produces combustion smoke containing hazardous substances and can disrupt workers' respiratory health. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between smoke exposure and respiratory complaints with lung capacity in brick industry workers in Kemangkon District. This study was a quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional approach conducted in July 2025. Data were collected through questionnaires and lung capacity measurements using a Peak Flow Meter. Results: The study showed that most workers were exposed to smoke for 5–8 hours per day (79.2%), with the majority experiencing severe lung capacity impairment (67.5%). A Chi-square test showed that the duration of smoke exposure was not significantly associated with lung capacity (p=0.895), while respiratory complaints such as coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, and excessive phlegm were significantly associated with decreased lung capacity (p<0.05). Conclusion: Respiratory complaints have a significant relationship with lung capacity in brick industry workers, while the duration of smoke exposure did not have a significant effect.
