EDUKASI KESEHATAN PENCEGAHAN RESISTENSI ANTIBIOTIK MENGGUNAKAN VIDEO ANIMASI PADA ANAK PANTI ASUHAN DI KOTA MATARAM

Abstrak

Bacteria can develop the ability to resist previously effective antibiotics. This condition, known as antibiotic resistance, is accelerated with the overuse and misuse of antibiotics. Antibiotic resistance has serious clinical and economic implications. Self-medication behavior with antibiotics, which is common in Indonesia, accelerates the occurrence of resistance. Knowledge and health-seeking behavior factors influence self-medication practice. To increase public awareness, particularly foster children in Patmos, a childcare institution in Kota Mataram, regarding the dangers of antibiotic resistance and its prevention. The health education was delivered using a 4.5 minutes animation video. This video explained the definition of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance; the causes and magnitudes of the problem; how to use antibiotics correctly; how resistant bacteria spread; and how to prevent antibiotic resistance. Out of 46 participants, 36 completed the pretest, 22 completed the posttest, and 17 filled out both. The majority (91-100%) of participants answered six of the eight questions correctly. However, less than 60% knew that fever does not always require antibiotics and the correct definition of antibiotic resistance. Knowledge scores before (8.01) and after watching the video (8.24) did not differ significantly (N=17, p>0.05, Wilcoxon test). Future education should be more interactive and addresses misconceptions identified in this activity. In conclusion, the participant’s knowledge regarding the correct use of antibiotics was good, and no significant increase in the participants’ knowledge after watching the education video. This activity identified misconceptions regarding antibiotic resistance that must be addressed in future health education.
