Small Steps to Dream Big in Shelter House Balarenik, Bekasi

Abstrak

The key to a nation's progress is through education, but access to education in Indonesia has not been enjoyed by all Indonesian children. There are various reasons why children cannot enjoy education, among others due to limited funds to pay tuition fees along with educational facilities such as school uniforms, books, stationery and transportation costs to school. In response to this problem, the Rumah Singgah Balarenik was established in the scavenger village of Bintara IV Dalam, West Bekasi. Balarenik aims to protect children and support their education. Balarenik is open to the community, campuses, schools, companies and organizations to participate in the education of children. One of the PKM (Social Community) activities, students of the Management study program, President University, led by Tadzkhirotun Fauzziah, with 12 students, and accompanied by four lecturers (Genoveva, Maria Jacinta Arquisola, Grace Amin and Sonny) contributed to the education of children fostered by the Balarenik Shelter House. This activity began a month ago, starting with a survey and interview with the manager regarding the needs of the children, age, number and activities needed, as well as a survey of the location conditions and access to the location. Based on the results of surveys and interviews, social community activities are planned by organizing events, preparing materials and equipment needed and funding these activities. Education on national insight, Religion, Pancasila and Indonesian Language is carried out by learning while playing. The activity is closed with a nutritious lunch, in addition to getting rice with side dishes, milk and mineral water are also provided. At the end of the activity, an evaluation was held.
